Apple on Tuesday officially released its latest iteration of high-end smartphones, the iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 15 Pro Max, at its “Wanderlust” event in Cupertino, California.
So, how is the iPhone 15 Pro different from the iPhone 14 Pro? Is it worth upgrading your iPhone 14 Pro to iPhone 15 Pro?
Apple iPhone 15 Pro Vs iPhone 14 Pro
The iPhone 15 Pro comes with substantial upgrades and some notable differences over its predecessor, the iPhone 14 Pro, which includes a robust titanium frame, a 3nm-based A17 Pro Bionic chip, a USB Type-C port, an Action button, and more.
In this article, we will compare the iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro and take a look at the most significant differences and major advantages between the models that will help you make the right choice:
1. Titanium Frame Vs. Stainless Steel
The iPhone 15 Pro features an aerospace-grade, lightweight titanium chassis with a new refined brush texture, contoured edges, toughest back glass, and the thinnest borders on the iPhone. In contrast, the iPhone 14 Pro has a surgical-grade stainless steel chassis with squared-off edges and a textured matte glass back. Therefore, the titanium frame used for the iPhone 15 Pro makes it more durable than the iPhone 14 Pro.
2. A17 Pro Vs. A16 Bionic
The iPhone 15 Pro is powered by A17 Pro, the industry’s first 3-nanometer chip. The new CPU is up to 10 percent faster, and the Neural Engine is now up to 2x faster, promising improved performance and battery efficiency. In contrast, the iPhone 14 Pro is powered by A16 Bionic chipset, which uses a 4nm manufacturing process.
3. Powerful Pro Camera System
Although the iPhone 15 Pro and iPhone 14 Pro have the same main 48MP camera, there are many improvements to the 48MP sensor of the iPhone 15 Pro, such as a larger sensor that enables more focal lengths like 24mm, 28mm, 35mm, and 48mm. It also has a 1.2X and 1.5X sensor crop.
Further, the iPhone 15 Pro features an expansive 3x Telephoto camera, and the iPhone 15 Pro Max provides the longest optical zoom ever on iPhone: 5x at 120 mm, promising better low-light performance. Also, the 12MP ultrawide is said to perform better in low-light conditions than the iPhone 14 Pro.
In addition to 48MP images, the iPhone 15 Pro also supports 48MP HEIF images with 4x more resolution.
On the video front, the significant new feature is “Spatial Video”, which will be able to use the main and ultrawide cameras to “create a three-dimensional video.” This video can be watched on the forthcoming Apple Vision Pro headset for a lifelike immersive experience.
4. Lightning Connector Vs USB-C
In 2012, the Cupertino giant shifted to the Lightning connector with the release of the iPhone 5 to offer a fast, reversible alternative to micro USB. However, starting with the iPhone 15 series, Apple has introduced the universal USB Type-C port for fast charging to comply with the new European Union (EU) laws.
5. Customizable Action Button
Apple has added the all-new “Action Button” on the iPhone 15 Pro, which allows users to toggle between ring and silent switch. This button replaces the single-function and long-standing mute switch the company introduced with its iPhone in 2007.
The Action Button can perform many functions, such as quick access to the camera or flashlight, activating Voice Memos, Focus modes, Translate, and more. In contrast, the iPhone 14 Pro does not have an Action Button.
6. Storage Options
The iPhone 14 Pro Max offers more storage options than the iPhone 15 Pro Max. For instance, the iPhone 14 Pro Max comes in 128GB, 256GB, 512GB and 1TB storage capacities, while the iPhone 15 Pro Max is available in 256GB, 512GB and 1TB storage options.
