Meta has been continuously working to enhance the overall user experience by adding new features and functionalities to its instant messaging platform, WhatsApp.
WhatsApp Might Soon Start Showing Status In Chat Window
As part of this, the California tech giant is reportedly testing a new feature to display user’s profile information within their conversations. In other words, a user’s WhatsApp status will be shown next to their last seen in the chat window.
WABetaInfo, a known WhatsApp tipster publication, discovered the new feature in the latest version of WhatsApp beta for Android 2.23.25.11 update, which is available on the Google Play Store.
As can be seen in the above screenshot, the status and last seen (if enabled) will appear below the contact name in the chat window. If users are offline, they will see the other person’s status under their name, and if they are online, the last seen and status will be shown separately. However, the information will be displayed only if the contact has enabled it in their WhatsApp privacy settings.
“In addition, this improves visibility in case users have recently updated their profile info, ensuring that others in the conversation are promptly aware of any changes,” the WABetaInfo report notes.
The new feature allows one to quickly view the status of a WhatsApp user’s text without tapping on their profile, as well as profile information within the chat window without opening a separate profile information screen.
According to WABetaInfo, users have been sharing their feedback and have requested the introduction of a similar functionality in the last couple of years.
“Over the years, numerous users have shared their feedback to request the introduction of a similar feature, and WhatsApp is finally demonstrating its dedication to enhancing the overall user experience and adapting the platform to meet evolving needs,” the WABetaInfo report adds.
Currently, the feature to display the user’s profile information within the chat window is under development and will be available in a future version of WhatsApp for Android. However, it still needs to be determined if a similar functionality is being worked upon for iOS devices.
