Apple is reportedly planning its first major revamp for the Apple Watch, which is internally known as the “Apple Watch X“. This redesigned version may likely release somewhere by late 2024 or 2025 to coincide with the 10th anniversary of the wearable device.

In his latest Power On newsletter, Bloomberg’s analyst Mark Gurman claims that the Cupertino giant is working on the most significant overhaul of its iconic Apple Watch, which is anticipated to bring about the most consiApplederable changes in the history of the watch.
For those unaware, Apple announced its first Apple watch in 2014, which went out for pre-orders on April 10, 2015. It was finally officially released on April 24, 2015.
“Apple is planning a “Watch X” model to mark the device’s 10-year anniversary, and it promises to be the biggest overhaul yet,” Gurman writes in his latest edition of the PowerOn newsletter.
“The category was unveiled in 2014 and released the following year, so Apple is planning to launch Watch X either in 2024 or 2025,” he adds.
As per Gurman, the Apple Watch X model will include a thinner watch case and a new magnetic band attachment system for the new model. Currently, bands have to be slid into the sides of the chassis and attached with a press-to-release locking mechanism, which offers compatibility across generations.
The Bloomberg analyst claims that people involved in developing the new Apple Watches say that the existing band-locking mechanism takes up a significant amount of space. Replacing this could mean existing bands no longer work with the upcoming models.
However, the space freed up with the redesign could be used for a larger battery for improved battery life or to upgrade other components. As a result, Apple is working to bring a magnetic band attachment system to the Watch X, although Gurman added that this feature may not be ready in time to be used in the new Apple Watch model.
Besides this, the Apple Watch X could have a new microLED display that promises more colors and clarity than the current OLED screens. Another feature rumored to make its way to Apple’s next-generation smartwatch could be the blood pressure sensor, adds Gurman.
Meanwhile, Apple is to unveil the Apple Watch Series 9 line-up alongside the latest new iPhone 15 smartphones at a press event scheduled for September 12. The report claims that the new watches will remain the same size as current models of 41mm and 45mm, with the latest Ultra model staying at 49mm. The smartwatch is expected to get a faster S9 processor, new color options, and support for watchOS 10.
