On Thursday, Sony Santa Monica Studio announced that it will be launching a free DLC – God of War Ragnarok: Valhalla – on December 12, 2023, starting at 9 AM Pacific Standard Time (PST).
The add-on content was announced as part of the annual Game Awards 2023.
God Of War Ragnarök ‘Valhalla’ Free DLC Announced
“As of November 19, God of War Ragnarök has sold through more than 15 million units worldwide across PS4 and PS5. To show our appreciation for the incredible support and love you’ve given the game since its release last year, our team has been working on a surprise for the God of War community,” the company announced in the PlayStation blog post.
“As fans of our fans, we’re thrilled to announce that on December 12, we’ll be releasing a free DLC as a gift to our players – God of War Ragnarök: Valhalla.”
The upcoming DLC is an epilogue to the events of God of War Ragnarok, which is set after the decisive battle against Odin and Atreus’ departure, featuring brand new elements inspired by the roguelite genre.
The add-on content follows Kratos on a deeply personal and reflective journey toward a future he never thought possible. It brings him to the mysterious shores of Valhalla accompanied only by Mimir. Further, a defeat in Valhalla will see Kratos waking up outside the doors to Valhalla, ready to give it another try.
During each attempt, Kratos will learn and adapt to the various challenges. The more challenges he overcomes, the more resources he will have, which can be put towards the permanent upgrades that affect both him and Valhalla.
“Kratos will have access to all his weapons and fully-upgraded skill trees at all times, but must commit to a shield and path of Spartan Rage for each attempt. As you overcome the trials of Valhalla and explore its depths, you will make choices between temporary Glyphs for which Stats to upgrade, which Perks to select, which Runic Attacks to wield, and more. Each attempt can play out differently based on the rewards you choose, so keep your strategy in mind when making selections!” adds the blog post.
Valhalla features five difficulty modes, with the highest difficulty setting being Show Me Mastery. Each difficulty setting increases the rewards you can gain from the battle, and you can swap the rewards among the difficulties.
Sony says God of War Ragnarök: Valhalla is a separate experience from the original God of War Ragnarök. This means you can play the game whenever you like without worrying about upgrades or progression.
If you own God of War Ragnarök, you will be able to download God of War Ragnarök: Valhalla for free on your PlayStation 4 and PlayStation 5 on December 12, 2023, from the PlayStation Store.
